Oskar Enander

Oskar Enander probably is the best ski photographer in the World. Based in Engelberg, but travels all over the World. Oskar has had numerous magazine covers around the globe, gallery shots, photography and journalism awards like European Photographer of The Year by IF3. He is also the first photographer to be awarded the Photo of the Year Award from Powder Magazine for a third time. Now he works with The Mountain Studio and most of the fantastic photos of ski action you see here on this website were shot by him. We asked his to put down a few words about himself

“I grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden but have lived in Switzerland (Lucerne/ Engelberg) since 2002. Before I discovered skiing and developed an interest in photography, I believed I wanted to become an engineer but quickly realized it wasn't for me.

Instead, I did a winter season in Chamonix in 99/00 and quickly realized that this is the environment in which I wanted to live and work. However, it wasn't until I came to Engelberg that I began to take photography seriously, trying to send my photos to ski magazines and contacting various companies in the industry.

"I submitted my first photos in the summer of 2003 and immediately got responses from some magazines, including Powder Magazine, which was then the most prestigious magazine in the skiing world. It went so well that I won the "Photo of the Year" award at their annual "Oscars gala" Powder Awards in Aspen, which naturally gave me a huge boost in confidence and many valuable contacts in the ski world. Since then, I've actually won that distinction two more times, making me the only photographer to have 3 "Photo of the Year" awards. My color blindness often comes up in connection with my photography. It's a normality for me and not something I feel holds me back, perhaps the opposite in how I view things up on the mountain. Maybe that's why my photos have a unique special character.

Over the years, I've worked with most of the major ski and clothing brands, and I am happy to now work with The Mountain Studio as my main assignment. As I live with my family; partner and two daughters, in Engelberg, it's exciting to see how The Mountain Studio has quickly become a brand to be reckoned with. Not least because of the ambassadors and the store which have given skiers a place to meet and get a feel for the brand."
